Heman Kumar Ramiya Ramesh Babu received his Ph.D. in Biotechnology Engineering from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beersheba, Israel, in 2018, as a Marie Curie Fellow on the EU-funded SAMOSS project ("Sample In – Answer Out Optochemical Sensing Systems"). He developed a miniaturized microarray platform for real-time, fluorescence-based kinetic analysis. He also holds an M.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences (Bioelectronics and Nanotechnology) from the Transnational University of Limburg, Belgium (a joint program of Hasselt University and Maastricht University), and a B.Tech. in Biotechnology from Anna University, Chennai, India.

After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a postdoc at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland, where he developed methods for aligning silver nanowires on patterned substrates to enhance bioassay sensitivity via metal-enhanced fluorescence. He then worked as a Senior Researcher at the BioSense Institute, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, leading work on FET-based biosensors and reconfigurable Janus emulsions for detecting metal ions in water.

He is currently working as a Postdoc at The Ohio State University in the Manna Laboratory, building custom optical setups to study fluorescent proteins.
