Chaeyoung “Grace” Yoo was born in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to Olympia, Washington, at the age of 10, where she grew up. She earned her B.S. in Chemistry (Biochemistry) from Purdue University in 2023. Grace has a diverse research background, including studying the effects of depression on neurogenesis at Texas A&M University under Dr. Michelle Hook (2019–2020), working on R&D for the platelet aggregation detector Anysis at Korea University with Dr. Sehyun Shin (2020–2022), and investigating sensory and perception mechanisms in the superior colliculus at Purdue University with Dr. Scott Pluta (2022–2023).
Beyond research, Grace is passionate about mental health and founded a student organization at Purdue to promote social connection through journaling and letter-writing. In her free time, she enjoys gaming, painting, and making music.
